Nirvana (British band)

Nirvana were a United Kingdom-based progressive rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s.〔Colin Larkin The Virgin encyclopedia of sixties music 1997 - Page 329 "Nirvana (UK) Songwriters Patrick Campbell-Lyons (b. Dublin, Eire) and George Alex Spyropoulus (b. Athens, Greece) met in La Gioconda, a legendary coffee bar in Denmark Street, London. Prior to that Campbell-Lyons had been a member of ..."〕〔Encyclopedia of rock - Phil Hardy, Dave Laing, Stephen Barnard - 1988 Page 320 "NIRVANA Multi-instrumentalists Patrick Campbell-Lyons and Alex Spyropoulos came together as Nirvana in 1967 to produce two superb dreamlike singles, 'Tiny Goddess' and 'Pentecost Hotel'. They went on to produce The Story of Simon ..."〕 Though the band achieved only limited commercial success, they were acclaimed both by music industry professionals and by critics.〔Brian Hogg, Sleeve Notes to the compilation ''Travelling On A Cloud'', 1992.〕 In 1985, the band reformed. The members of the original Nirvana took Kurt Cobain to court over the name, eventually reaching a settlement. Patrick Campbell-Lyons also stated that ''Nevermind'' had a very similar cover to ''Simon Simopath''.〔Christopher Sandford Nirvana 2004- Page 215 "Meanwhile, Cobain's British fame had brought him to the attention of Patrick Campbell-Lyons, coincidentally also the leader of a group called Nirvana, this one dating from 1967. The solicitor to the Musicians Union despatched a polite letter of protest on Campbell-Lyons' behalf, to no avail. The British Nirvana then hired a west coast lawyer with the striking name of Debbi Drooz to hurl writs at Cobain and his record company. After two years of what Campbell-Lyons calls 'legal nonsense', the case was settled. According to ...proves that 'Cobain and Geffen certainly weren't disinterested when it came to money', and that Nevermind had a startlingly similar front cover to Campbell-Lyons' own LP Simon Simopath, which he thinks likely influenced the later work."〕
